about
This song was a commission for a friend who was trying to woo back a lost love. I had done a Kickstarter campaign where if someone gave $500 I would write a song for them. My friend asked me to try to win back someone, and he gave me images from their happy times together and some of their favorite songs. It was one of the hardest songs to write, because it had such heavy expectations on it. I set it at a cafe in Davis, California where they lived.
One day he called me because he was up in Portland with her. He asked if I could stand in the doorway of Mississippi Records with a guitar while they walked up, and "spontaneously" play her the song. I did, and they listened, and there was an awkward pause after, and then I said, "Okay, bye."
It ended up not working. He didn't win her back. I'm sure if he thinks it was a good investment or not.
